Atlas provides tutorial services for all grade levels from Kindergarten to 4th year university in Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver. Our tutors are are either Bachelors, Masters, PhD students or recent graduates, or have teaching certification. They have experience teaching Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and the Social Sciences, and also teach effective study habits and test writing skills. Because our tutors are students themselves, or are recent graduates, they remember the concepts that were difficult for them to learn, and know how best to teach them.
We also prepare students to take standardized tests, such as the SAT, SSAT and TOEFL.

Atlas Tutors was founded in 2001 by Lena Kikuchi, then a Master's student in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. Lena had been tutoring from 1994. Through her advertisements in newspapers and the continued high recommendations of her students and their parents, she suddenly found that she had too many clients -- so she decided to hire some help. Atlas Tutors was born. After opening a branch in Toronto, Lena moved to Boston, MA, USA to work on research at Harvard University. We have since opened a branch in Ottawa and Vancouver and presently, we are working on expanding Atlas to Boston.
Allison Guy joined the Ottawa Branch of Atlas Tutors in 2003. She brings with her many years of tutoring experience as well as a Bachelors and Masters in Neuroscience from the University of Toronto.
Sue Erickson joined the Toronto Branch of Atlas Tutors in 2003. She holds a Masters in Electrical Engineeringfrom the University of Toronto. She first started tutoring in 1999 in Physics for first year university students. Since then, her teaching experiences have included teaching preparation courses for GRE as well as being a teaching assistant for Electrical Engineering and Physics courses at the University of Toronto, where her clear explanations of and enthusiasm for the subject matter made her a favourite with students.
Diana Hansen joined the Vancouver Branch of Atlas Tutors in 2005. She has a lifetime of experience tutoring and teaching, starting in 1990 where she taught ESL. She holds a Bachelors in Physiology from McGill University, and a Bachelors in English Literature from the University of British Columbia. She currently teaches Medical English as well as ESL classes in Vancouver. As with all members of the Atlas team, Diana's goal is to make learning a wonderous experience for all.

3) Patience and Support
Children need to learn that hard work pays off. Try asking open-ended questions or rephrasing the problem, such as: "Maybe there's another way to do that," "I wonder what made you think of doing it that way," or "What would happen if you changed...?" Questions that begin with "why" should be avoided, since they will probably make your child feel defensive.
